Memo: Chile Church Construction

As you are probably aware, the ALJC has been involved in the relief efforts in Chile.  The earthquake in Chile completely destroyed ten churches that are a part of our organization.  Our General Superintendent, Bro. Robert Martin, feels that our organization should come to the assistance of Bro. Fuentes and the ten Chilean churches that were destroyed by the earthquake.

At our General Conference, Bro. Martin shared, with our organization, his vision for rebuilding the churches.  It will only cost $60,000 to rebuild all ten churches!  He asked for commitments from districts and churches to help in the rebuilding effort.  While Bro. Martin was sharing this vision and receiving an offering, we felt like the Indiana District should do our part in the rebuilding effort.  We committed the Indiana District to rebuild one of these ten churches.  Our district does not presently have the $6,000 needed but we felt like our Indiana churches would rally to this cause and help us raise the funds.

We can raise $6,000 quickly and easily if every church in our district sends in an offering of at least $150.  We are asking every church to send an immediate offering to our District Secretary, Bro. Eric Hall.  We would like to be able to send in our $6,000 to headquarters as soon as possible.

One of the goals of The 2020 Vision is to play an active role in a major World Missions project.  We are exploring the possibility, with Bro. Sears and Bro. walls, of taking a team down to help with the rebuilding.  By doing this, we would fulfill one of the goals of the World Missions segment of The 2020 Vision.

A few weeks ago, we shared with you a very pressing need – many of our brothers and sisters in the churches in Haiti were still without food and basic necessities.  After speaking with Pastor Wilner Louissaint, who oversees the churches there, we felt a good solution would be to find a vehicle that we could fill with food and supplies and ship it directly to Haiti.  We were excited to hear that Pastor David Triplett and the Eagle Bend Apostolic Church of Clinton, TN were willing to donate a school bus for this effort.  A young man from Pastor Triplett’s church drove the bus from Tennessee to Miami.  I met Pastor Louissaint in Miami and we took the bus to a wholesale food distributor where we filled it to capacity with rice, beans and other supplies.  Pastor Louissaint and I then drove the bus to the port in Miami where we made arrangements for the bus and its contents to be shipped directly to Petit Guave.

The bus should be arriving in Haiti any day now.  After the food and supplies are distributed, Pastor Louissaint and the churches will get a lot of great use out of the school bus.

Thank you so much for your support and prayers.  We appreciate all the ALJC churches and pastors who made this part of our relief effort possible.

I just received word today that a team from Global Panel Solutions will be arriving in Haiti this week to begin construction of Phase 1 of the rebuilding of the Petit Guave church facility.  GPS has agreed to donate both the material and labor to rebuild the headquarters facility.  This is a tremendous answer to prayer and will be a huge blessing to the people of Haiti.  When completed, the building will not only have space for the church, but also space for a medical clinic, community training center and school.   We will keep you updated as to how the construction process is going.
